On the eve of Rio, it’s great to see the #BeStrongBeBeautiful campaign coming along.
There is hardly a dumber concept than shaming girls for having a sporty shape.
Encouraging girls that it’s perfectly fine to look athletic follows hot on the heels of the disdain many now share about forcing women to wear high heels in certain jobs.
On a wonkish level, this is celebrating the freedom that Isaiah Berlin attached to internal positive liberty, the freedom to be, and negative liberty, the freedom from external constraint.
On the industry side, we see this as another example of how advertising can and should be done. It’s about being constructive and useful to people.
More of the same, please.
